  1. Best of Video Game Music – Day 18

    October 16, 2011 by varg

    Best of Video Game Music

And it’s finally here, the last song of the fighting theme. It might be the funkiest song this far, and that’s one reason why I like it. The game itself can brag about stuff like horrible controls and a Japanese version which is way easier than the other releases. So what is this mysterious game I’m talking about?

  2. Best of Video Game Music – Day 17

    Best of Video Game Music

This time I’ve chosen a song that most people don’t really link to fighting. There is some cheating involved since the song is from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Most of the songs in this game are remixed versions from other Nintendo games. I almost like everything about this remix, but the “singing” is horrible.

  3. Best of Video Game Music – Day 14

    August 25, 2011 by hundben

Another late post, and this time it’s my fault for being too busy with school. I’m going to be a bit boring and choose a song that most of you’ve probably already heard of, but from a game that not that many have played. I’ve only played the arcade version of this game, but from what I’ve heard you should really stay away from the PlayStation port.

  4. Extreme Makover: Video-Game Edition

    August 24, 2011 by varg

Something that I’ve been thinking about lately is; how many times can you repackage a game, perhaps update the graphics or audio, add an extra dungeon, and sell it again? Some games, especially Final Fantasy IV and Lunar: The Silver Star, have been remade a couple of times now. And while the first remakes of FFIV were simple ports, with added movies, the latest version is quite nice to look at.

  5. Best of Video Game Music – Day 13

    August 23, 2011 by varg

Song number 13 and it isn’t even on a Friday. As it’s a new week it’s also time for a new theme. This time it is ‘Fight!’. I won’t begin with a song from Street Fighter II even though it is tempting.

A while ago when I played the rhythm-game Osu!, which is a game inspired by ‘Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!’, I found a japanese artist called Hyadain who writes lyrics to video game songs. One of the songs I really liked was his Yie Ar Kung~Fu rap. And the song is awesome even without the lyrics so here it is.

  6. Best of Video Game Music – Day 12

    August 21, 2011 by varg

It’s one day late, but here the last song for this week. Ever heard of a video game series called Castlevania? I kind of mentioned it in the first post this week but here it is again. So what song did I choose then? Vampire Killer? Bloody Tears? Not really, but it’s from the same game as Bloody Tears and it’s Dwelling of Doom from Simon’s Quest. The game isn’t one of the best even though they tried some interesting ideas, the mansions are one of the worst parts of the game, but the music is just awesome. Enjoy!

  7. Best of Video Game Music – Day 11

    August 20, 2011 by varg

Sorry for the delay, I’ve been in Germany for Gamescom2011 and arrived in Sweden late last night. Here’s my second song this week. A song which feels like it should’ve been played by an orchestra but it’s still nice on the SNES. I was thinking about the castle theme from Super Mario Bros at first, but then i remembered the song that still creeps me out a bit. I really love the part with the arpeggios and it might be the best song in the game. Castle Theme from Super Mario World!

  8. Best of Video Game Music – Day 8

    August 16, 2011 by hundben

The 8th song is from one of my favorite 8-bit games, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link – Great Palace. I can still remember the first time i entered the last palace and was awed by the music and the sound from the barrier disappearing. In general the music in this game is really great and is often forgotten when talking about Zelda-games. I really wish that they’d either remake or create a sequel to this game in the same style.

  9. Best of Video Game Music – Day 7

    August 15, 2011 by varg

A new week! Which means six, or more, new songs! The theme this week is Castle(s), and there’s one specific castle that almost gave my nightmares when I were younger, and no, Dracula isn’t involved. The castle I’m talking about is called Shadowgate, and so is the game. Shadowgate is one of few games translated into Swedish, which is my native language, so I could play it even before I knew English. Though, there are some mistranslations, but the game’s great and I’ve beaten it way too many times. Shadowgate was probably the game that got me hooked on adventure games, which is one of my favorite genres today.

  10. Summary and preparations

    August 15, 2011 by varg

    feattest

The first week is over, and while some songs were posted a little bit late, we managed to present six songs we like. I’ll post a playlist with all the songs. Why? I’m not sure. I’m just gonna do it. We still need theme suggestions and as I said last Monday, feel free to suggest your own songs that’s fitting the theme. There might a hidden gem we don’t know about yet.
